The chief executive officers of health insurers are leading their companies through the rough transition into the post-reform market. Some are taking cautious approaches to health insurance exchanges, while others are defying federal cuts to certain programs. But regardless of the approach, they're all continuing to earn top dollar for their work.

FierceHealthPayer presents a review of CEO compensation at the largest publicly traded health insurance companies based on 2012 revenue. Using the Fortune 500 list of the insurers with the largest revenue in 2012, we examined the compensation of chief executives from the eight largest companies.
