Disrupting: Bill payment
Details: UnitedHealth took an innovative and unusual step to improve consumers' healthcare experience with its decision to allow members to pay their bills online. And it quickly resonated with consumers. In less than one year of launching, myClaims Manager has allowed UnitedHealth members to make more than $20 million in payments using a credit card, debit card or bank account to more than 50,000 providers. What's more, the online payment system continues to grow, with a roughly 25 percent increase in transactions each month.
None of that success is an accident. "This is part of an ongoing evolution within UnitedHealth in which we're trying to simplify the member's healthcare journey," Victoria "Tory" Bogatyrenko, UnitedHealth's vice president of product development and innovation, told FierceHealthPayer in an exclusive interview.
The mClaims Manager also helps UnitedHealth members better understand their benefits through a management tool, which acts like an online banking program to track claims, mark them as paid and enter notes. Members can now manage their claims, understand their responsibilities and pay that claim all with the same online tool.
