Rival plans must stay competitive in Illinois exchange

Illinois's largest insurer, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, took the cake by enrolling 92 percent of all 217,500 enrollees who signed up for coverage via the Illinois Health Insurance Exchange, reports Insurance Networking News. Now, the insurer's rivals are looking at ways to boost their member population. Humana, Aetna, Coventry Health Care and the Carle Foundation are among the half-dozen insurers that sold plans on the state's exchange. They should take a note from the Blues, which educated consumers through direct outreach and programs. Competition for the state's exchange will likely grow as eight insurers are expected to sell plans come November. Article
