UnitedHealth to create 400 new customer service facility jobs
UnitedHealth's pharmacy benefits company OptumRx is opening a new customer service facility in Tucson and creating 400 new jobs to work at that center.
The insurer said Thursday it expects the new facility, which will be located at the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park, to open later this year and be fully staffed in 18 months, Inside Tucson Business reported.
The new jobs, which will provide an average minimum salary of $37,000, likely will include positions for customer-service, training, workforce management and quality management, according to the Arizona Republic.
UnitedHealth received a $200,000 state grant to help establish the new office and, in exchange, the insurer has committed to keeping the 400 positions in Tucson for at least five years.
Officials for UnitedHealth and Optum said they chose Tucson for its diverse workforce, favorable regulatory climate and its proximity to the University of Arizona pharmacy school, noted Inside Tucson Business.
This announcement is the second in as many weeks involving Arizona employees. After UnitedHealth won a $20 billion contract to administer Tricare benefits, it said it would hire many employees from the Arizona market to help implement that contract.
UnitedHealth Group already has more than 2,800 employees in Arizona, the Phoenix Business Journal reported.
