Nearly 8.7M have signed up for plans on Healthcare.gov

Since the start of the current open enrollment period, nearly 8.7 million consumers have signed up for health coverage through the Healthcare.gov platform or had their coverage automatically renewed, according to the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). For both the federal exchange and state exchanges, the most recent data show 11.3 million customers have signed up for plans.

HHS said it saw unprecedented demand for plans leading up to the deadline to receive coverage by Jan. 1, and continues to make steady progress signing up new customers as open enrollment proceeds.  

Friday is the last day for individuals to sign up for coverage effective Feb. 1, and plan selections associated with future enrollment activity to date could fluctuate as plan changes or cancellations occur, HHS notes. Announcement
