Employers continue to shift more healthcare costs to employees, survey finds

The average premium for employer-based coverage rose to $6,251 for single coverage, while the average premium for a family plan increased to $17,545, according to a survey published Tuesday by the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Health Research & Educational Trust. And as the study points out, deductibles continue to rise faster than total healthcare expenditures. The survey comes amid recent findings that employers continue to shift more costs onto their employees. For instance, 46 percent of workers have a deductible of at least $1,000 this year for single coverage as employers shift to "consumer-directed" plans, according to Kaiser Health News.
