Humana retools strategy for selling ACA plans in Georgia
Humana hopes the third year of open enrollment is the charm in Georgia, where a flood of enrollees has proven costly to the insurer, Bloomberg reported. Humana covers more than 250,000 Georgians under Affordable Care Act plans. The insurer initially charged too little for these plans. On top of that, the consumers obtaining them were sicker than Humana had anticipated. With so many patients, Humana allowed these consumers to see out-of-network doctors--a move the insurer said impacted its first quarter earnings. For the 2016 plan year, Humana will end the out-of-network flexibility, raise rates and make an effort to attract healthier (and therefore more profitable) customers, Bloomberg said. Article
