SPOTLIGHT: WellPoint execs involved in reform controversies leave
Two WellPoint executives who were involved in controversies that buffeted the insurer during the health overhaul debate are leaving, the Wall Street Journal reports. Cynthia Miller, the company's top actuary, and Bradley Fluegel, its chief of strategy, will depart from the company. Miller was called to defend WellPoint’s large rate increases before Congress. When those premiums were found to be built partially on mathematical errors, the insurer withdrew and recalculated them. Fluegel oversaw government relations during a period in which the company sparred with the Obama administration. After the attention to the rate increases, WellPoint faced accusations that it targets women with breast cancer for rescission of their health policies, which the company denied. Article
