Rhode Island launches all-payer claims database

Rhode Island recently launched its All-Payer Claims Database (RI-APCD) which will provide data about hospital costs with the intent to achieve higher quality of care at a lower cost, according to the announcement. The analytics firms selected to help with the initiative, 3M Health Information Systems, will provide data management and analytics for all of RI-APCD data. The database collects and aggregates enrollment, medical claims and provider data from insurers. This collection of data will then, in turn, provide better transparency about utilization and efficiency of the state's healthcare delivery system. Announcement
