Key feds direct insurance reforms
Several key officials in the Obama administration are leading the charge to turn the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into an on-the-ground reality, reports the New York Times. Among the key players: Phyllis Borzi, an assistant secretary of labor, is writing regulations that will tell employers the rules for providing benefits; Jeanne Lambrew is working to expand insurance coverage as director of the Office of Health Reform in the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS); and Jay Angoff is in charge of new rules to regulate insurers and insurance markets as head of HHS' Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight.
In today's Federal Register, the Department of Health and Human Services published a notice explaining how the new Office of Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight will be organized. Last week HHS also requested public comments related to setting medical-loss ratios, as well as comments related to establishing a premium review process.
