Insurers pressured to reveal more pricing information
Health insurers are getting increasing pressure from employers, attempting to reduce their own expenses, to make healthcare pricing methods more transparent, reports the Wall Street Journal. Employers want to provide their workers with specific medical costs as more individuals are choosing high-deductible insurance requiring them to pay out-of-pocket before coverage kicks in. Since these consumers spend their own money on services, they want to shop around, comparing prices of medical services. But web services that disclose healthcare pricing need data from the insurers, which have been declining to provide the information.
