HMO Group Health, Providence Health launch single delivery network
Seattle-based HMO Group Health is joining forces with 32-hospital system Providence Health & Services to create what they hope will be more efficient, coordinated healthcare through a new medical limited liability corporation.
The new company, which has yet to be named, will launch a single delivery network in Spokane that all health plans and employers can use. The consumer-governed insurer said "a couple" of health plans already are interested in contracting with the network, Kelly Stanford, Group Health's vice president of market development in Spokane, told Kaiser Health News.
The Group Health-Providence company's network will become the region's largest doctor organization, including almost 400 doctors, specialists and nurses from Group Health centers and Providence's 50 area clinics, the Spokane Spokeman-Review reported.
"By drawing on the strengths and capabilities of both organizations and through new models of payment to providers, our integrated physician organization will achieve three goals--enhance patient health, improve the patient care experience and decrease the overall cost of care," Stanford said in a statement.
The company will emphasize information sharing among doctors, focusing on evidence-based medicine and using the same electronic medical records system. If successful, both Group Health and Providence could see a larger market share, the Spokesman-Review noted.
