Can private exchanges save employer-sponsored plans?
The price tag of employer-sponsored plans is set to increase come 2018 when the Cadillac tax--a 40 percent excise tax on all high-priced plans--goes into effect. However, private and public employers can take a new approach to this hotly debated provision by offering privately run health insurance exchanges, according to the Heritage Foundation. If the private exchange can allow self-insured employers to offer employees great flexibility in benefit design, provide more choice of health plans and better assist consumers with determining plan rates, it will ultimately let them make better healthcare decisions.
