Alaska makes push to expand Medicaid

Alaska Gov. Bill Walker (I) made moves Thursday to expand Medicaid to his state's low-income residents, reports the Wall Street Journal. In a letter to state legislators, Walker said he plans to apply directly to President Barack Obama's administration, which will prompt legislators to either call a special session or take action to stop his plans from moving forward. Walker will give the state legislature 45 days to act, otherwise, he will make a unilateral move after lawmakers previously had declined a bill to expand the program.
