Highmark to cover telemedicine

Pittsburgh-based Highmark sees value in telemedicine, which is why the insurer will cover online visits via Iagnosis, a teledermatology solution, for 5.2 million of its members, reports MedCity News. This marks a huge turning point, since insurers have been reluctant to cover telemedicine. "We need to make sure our members get the right care in the right setting, and telemedicine is a key tool to help make that setting more patient-centered," said Donald R. Fischer, Highmark senior vice president and chief medical officer. "Telemedicine is a resource that is critical to transforming the delivery of healthcare. It ensures faster access to high-quality healthcare while also helping to control costs." Article
