States slowly are jumping on board to expand Medicaid, including several led by Republican lawmakers, reports Reuters.

So far, 27 states have expanded health coverage to low-income residents. Now, nine more are talking about expansion, while three more may follow suit, depending on the outcome of November's midterm elections. States are focusing on Pennsylvania's deal with the Obama administration--the administration proved willing to place new responsibilities on beneficiaries and allow the private sector a bigger role when providing healthcare.

"Pennsylvania's the leading edge of what could be a new wave of expanding states," Deborah Bachrach, a Medicaid expert at the law and consulting firm Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, told Reuters. Article
