Report: Many who drop Covered California plans stay insured
A new report from Covered California reveals that 85 percent of individuals who have dropped coverage on the state's health insurance exchange end up accessing coverage elsewhere. The greatest share, 44 percent, opt for employer-based coverage, while 16 percent turn to Medi-Cal, 13 percent choose private coverage and 11 percent have "other coverage."
"The data reveal that Covered California is not an end point for every consumer," Covered California Executive Director Peter V. Lee said in the report. "Rather, it is part of their ongoing journey of ensuring they have health insurance, often moving from one source of coverage to another."
The state exchange has served more than 2 million people since it began offering coverage in January 2014, the report notes. Report
