More than 450,000 individuals purchased health insurance on Healthcare.gov during the first week of open enrollment, from Nov. 15 to Nov. 21, Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell announced during a phone conference Wednesday with reporters, according to CNBC. Nearly half of the aforementioned number consisted of new enrollees. The number does not include the 13 states and the District of Columbia that run their own exchanges. Burwell mentioned that officials will be giving weekly updates on enrollment figures, which is something that HHS refused to do during the last open enrollment period. "We're off to a solid start, but we've still got a lot of work to do every day between now and Feb. 15," Burwell said on the call. Article
