Many California dual-eligibles satisfied with their current care

Survey shows many beneficiaries hesitant to join the demonstration project Cal MediConnect

California residents who are dually eligible for Medicare and Medi-Cal aren't flocking to a new coordinated care project known as Cal MediConnect, according to a new survey, but that's largely because they're happy with the care they already have. In its survey of 2,502 dual eligible beneficiaries, The SCAN Foundation found that 84 percent of those who opted out of Cal MediConnect said they did so because they were satisfied with their current healthcare services, while 71 percent didn't want to risk losing their doctors.

However, among those who did participate in Cal MediConnect, more than seven in 10 enrollees are very or somewhat satisfied with each of six aspects of health services measured in the survey, including choice of providers and information from health plans explaining their benefits.
