Healthy young adults will shop on exchanges

Healthy young adults will likely shop for coverage through the health insurance exchanges, helping offset the costs of insuring sicker, older members, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll. Of the 1,053 uninsured Americans surveyed, 40 percent said they support the reform law, and 50 percent of young adults support it. And 33 percent of young adults said they are "very" or "somewhat" likely to buy insurance through the online marketplaces. "Contrary to commonly held beliefs, young adults do want affordable health coverage," David Blumenthal, president of the Commonwealth Fund, told Reuters. What's more, more than 33 percent of young adults have previously tried to purchase health coverage, which Reuters suggests shows a pent-up demand for plans sold through exchanges. Article
