Cigna electronically adds doctors to its networks
Cigna (NYSE: CI) has introduced new electronic contracting that it hopes will accelerate the process of adding new physicians and practices to its networks, reports Insurance Business Review.
Providers wanting to enter into a first-time standard contract with Cigna can use a secure website to complete and sign documents, cutting enrollment time in half and saving money, according to Health Data Management.
Cigna's vice president, healthcare professional solutions Julie Vayer said electronic contracting expedites the overall process for physicians and enables the insurer to more quickly add physicians to its growing network. "This is just one way Cigna is making it easier for healthcare professionals to do business with us," Vayer said.
The insurer is using an e-signature technology from EchoSign to meet compliance and legal requirements. Cigna says a paper-only addition process generated more than a million pieces of paper per year, notes Insurance and Technology. It adds more than 20,000 new physicians and small practices a year.
