Calif. voters, Kaiser Permanente, Anthem reject Prop 45

Voters in California on Tuesday rejected the state's regulation, Proposition 45, which would have given the state insurance commissioner veto power over health insurance rates for Californians with individual and small-business plans, reports the Los Angeles Times.

Anthem Blue Cross and Kaiser Permanente spearheaded ads about Prop 45's potential threat to the healthcare reform law. Sixty percent of voters joined the state's two largest health plans.

"Pro-Affordable Care Act forces and anti-regulation folks formed a 60 percent coalition. It was a strange set of bedfellows," Robert Laszewski, a healthcare consultant, told the paper. Article
