Details: Independence Blue Cross has created its own Center for Health Care Innovation to create partnerships and alliances as well as conduct research and development. "We wanted to figure out how can we ... help Philadelphia become the Silicon Valley of healthcare?" IBC Vice President of Corporate Development and Innovation Terry Booker told FierceHealthPayer. IBC is conducting research and development by partnering with other organizations and establishing a strategic innovation portfolio that invests for R&D purposes in companies all over the country.
As part of the innovation center, IBC is launching various pilots, including one with the University of Pennsylvania Hospital System and NYU Hospital System in which it works to better identify patients with chronic conditions so that it can proactively help them better manage their conditions.
