The first-ever Kentucky Gives Day held this week is being declared a tremendous success, as Kentuckians donated $330,000 in 24 hours of online giving.

Organizers say 300 non-profit organizations, representing a variety of causes, including public health, the arts and the environment, received contributions from midnight until 11:59 p.m. on April 24.

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield was a major sponsor of Kentucky Gives Day.

“Thanks to all Kentuckians who stepped up to the challenge and showed their generosity and commitment to the vital charities that serve all parts of Kentucky,” said Anthem president Deb Moessner. “Our 1,100 associates at Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Kentucky are proud of our association with Kentucky Gives Day. The money raised speaks volumes about the spirit of caring that exists among the residents of Kentucky.”

All donations for the 24 hour period Wednesday were made online through a secure Kentucky Gives web site.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the response,” said Danielle Clore, executive director of Kentucky Nonprofit Network Inc., which coordinated Kentucky Gives Day. “We didn’t know exactly what to expect. But we were overwhelmed with the generosity that Kentuckians showed. We felt this was a great start to an effort that we hope will continue for years to come.”
