Alaska lawmakers turn their attention toward reducing fraud
Two bills look to institute a state-specific False Claims Act and discontinue services to certain people
Two bills are making their way through the Alaska state Senate with support from lawmakers who say Medicaid fraud is contributing to the state's $4 billion deficit, according to KTVA.com.
Senate Bill 78, championed by Gov. Bill Walker, proposes a Medicaid False Claims Act (FCA) that would provide reward increases--by 15-25 percent--to whistleblowers who report Medicaid fraud. States like Washington have found success with newly implemented state specific FCA laws, and meanwhile, Sen. Pete Kelly has pushed Senate Bill 74, which would he says would focus on "cost recovery." Kelly added that he wants to stop services to a specific population, but declined to provide further details beyond it resulting in huge savings for the state. Article
